Tony Talks History
The ENTIRE History Of Nintendo
Nintendo started in 1889 as a tiny shop in Kyoto making flower playing cards, and its best customers were gambling parlours. Before it ever made a video game, it ran a taxi firm, sold instant rice, made a vacuum cleaner and turned empty bowling alleys into laser shooting ranges, until an oil crisis left it five billion yen in debt. Then a bored maintenance engineer built a toy arm, a warehouse full of unsold arcade machines became Donkey Kong, its hero was named after a landlord, and a walk-out on Sony created the PlayStation. This is the whole story, from the flower cards to the Switch.
